Going out with a bang!

Christmas is around the corner, and the festivities have descended upon campus once again! Celebrations were kickstarted by workshops on Wreath making, Card making, and decoration making. The Sports Club also hosted a Christmas Fun Run. However, the celebrations' highlights were the Christmas Ball, the Winter Fair, and the Christmas Musical by Professor John Matthew and team. Aikyatha also raised funds for the Raise a Child Foundation.

The 2023-24 KBL has come to a close! The winners are Shaq’s Peens, captained by Shaurya. Congratulations to the winners Shaurya, Adwaiy, Pranav Jain, Manan, Ayaan Bedi, Suryansh, Adeeb, Sandeep, Vir Mohan, and Dev Thomas, who beat Ball Busters to clinch the 2023-24 KBL Trophy.

When it comes to learning and upskilling, a lot has been happening on campus. We begin with the launch of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, with the “Zero to One” beginner startup workshop hosted by Shyam Sekar, a professional in consulting, business strategy, branding, marketing, and operations, on 16th and 17th December 2023. On the 12th and 13th of December, Physics faculty and students hosted the  Physics Φ-esta, a series of competitions, demonstrations, seminars and more to help showcase the world of Physics to the wider Krea community. The Centre for Writing and Pedagogy organised GramMiracle, a grammar workshop, as part of the English Language Support programme conducted by Dr. Anannya Dasgupta.

We’ve also had a plethora of wonderful talks and sessions throughout the last two weeks. An authorspeak session discussing dystopias and worldbuilding in speculative fiction was moderated by Prof Joya John, and the panelists were Prof Prayaag Akbar and Prof Ruchi Joshi. A Krea Literature Talk by Prof Bishnu Mohapatra on Walter Benjamin’s ‘Task of the Translator’, and a Krea Economics Talk by Dr. Sabyasachi Das on Decentralising the Development-Conservation Trade-off: Evidence from Forestland Diversions in India. The Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences presented a talk on Racial Origin and Social Life of Statistics in Modern India by Dr Sayori Ghoshal. The documentary “Born in Gaza,” filmed shortly after the 2014 invasion of Gaza, was also screened. Finally, a Krea Research Seminar by Kaustav Mehta (PG Diploma ‘24) on Charting Complexity: Graph-Based Insights into Disease Comorbidities in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients was also held.

In other news, 4 New Clubs have been inducted into our clubs and societies community - The Run Club, The Legal Club, Qismat - The film club, and the Finance Club. Watch this space to hear more about the results of their upcoming elections!

We at Leher would like to end the year by thanking our campus heroes - our security staff, housekeeping staff, groundskeeping staff and all other staff members who worked through the onslaught of cyclone Michaung, to help keep the campus running and to ensure we were affected by the cyclone as little as possible.
